About Medical Makers
Medical Makers is a cross-disciplinary club that researches, designs, and builds new and innovative medical devices. By working with nurses at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, a top-ranking rehabilitation hospital in downtown Chicago, students are presented with real, unmet clinical needs that are then turned into educational yet impactful projects. Through its development of medical devices (which, in the past, have included a face-tracking hospital bedside robotic arm, a waterproofing system for a diaphragmatic pacer, and more), students of all experience levels can develop skills in design, design research, engineering, and communication. Throughout the projects, students receive guidance from industry professionals at Stryker, a multinational medical technologies company also based in the Midwest.
