About Melbourne University Cheer and Dance
The University of Melbourne Cheerleading Club is one of the university's newest sports affiliated teams. As a representative of Melbourne University, our Cheerleading Club is one of Victoria's premier squads. We pride ourselves in balancing academia, social responsibilities and sport training. The Melbourne University Cheerleading Club began in 2012 with only 24 members. In our first year as a MU Cheerleading Club we competed in both cheer and pom. We represented the University of Melbourne at Southern University Games and a selection of cheerleading competitions; including a 1st place victory at the 2012 AASCF States and 3rd place at the 2012 AASCF Nationals in Sydney. In 2013, our numbers grew to over 100 members and we three cheerleading teams and one pom team; boasting a second place at Southern University Games. Our inaugural level 3/4 team in 2013 came away with 1st place at both Winterfest and States competitions and 2nd place at the Nationals competition. In 2014, Melbourne University Cheerleading put three cheer teams and two pom teams onto the floor. By this time we lost track of how many awards, medals and certificates we won. 2015 was an amazing year for our club. Our All Girl Level 1/2 team took out first place in AASCF's Winterfest competition and the annual AASCF Nationals! We we're so proud to feature two competitive cheerleading teams, two pom teams and a hip-hop team. In 2016 we hope to grow even further and we hope you are there with us. Cheerleading is an exciting and challenging sport suitable for all athletes. Comprising a mixture of gymnastics, dance and acrobatics, cheerleading is one of the fastest growing sports in the world!
