About Mendel University in Brno
Mendel University in Brno is the oldest independent institution of higher education of its kind in the Czech Republic. Efforts to establish an agricultural college in Moravia date back to 1864, but these attempts were thwarted by political, economic, and national obstacles. It was only with the establishment of the independent Czechoslovak Republic in October 1918 that its founding became possible. Since 2010, the university has been known as Mendel University in Brno (MENDELU). In 2011, with the establishment of the independent university institute CEITEC MENDELU within the Faculty of AgriSciences, the university became part of the inter-university center of excellence, the Central European Institute of Technology. At the end of 2012, the university was awarded the prestigious ETCS Label and Diploma Supplement Label by the European Commission, confirming that its study programs and examination system comply with the principles of the Bologna Declaration. To help employees balance work and family life, the Hrášek Kindergarten was established in 2013.
