Merchants is an international full-service hospitality company with expertise in investment, development, ownership and management of Residential and Commercial Real Estate, with a focus on high volume Restaurants. Founded in 1986, over it’s 37 year history, its Principals, have owned, developed and acquired some of the most luxurious hospitality properties in the United States and around the world. With acquisitions, development and investments by Merchants in excess of $1 billion, Merchants has established itself as one of the most active and well-respected investment firms in NYC. Properties have included Hotels, Residential Condominiums, Restaurants and Office Buildings. Merchants have led the development and acquisition of a vast array of assets including: the Cachet Hotel in Manhattan, the Z Hotel in Long Island City, NYC’s famous Pier 15 at South Street Seaport, and the Maplewood Luxury Senior Living residential development project on Manhattan’s Upper East Side to name a few. Merchants is also amongst NYC’s largest privately held restaurant owners. Merchants currently operates 17 premier restaurants in NYC including Philippe Chow, off Madison Avenue, as well as the Philippe Chow at the Dream Hotel, Treadwell Park in multiple locations, Ophelia on top of the Beekman UN Hotel, Industry Kitchen, Merchants Cigar Bar, Merchants NY, and Mezze On The River. Merchants has opened a Philippe Chow restaurant on the Wharf in Washington DC, and is currently developing additional Philippe Chow restaurants in Nashville and Miami, both opening in 2024, in addition to a licensee location in Kuwait City. Merchants’ principals Abraham Merchant and Richard Cohn have been industry leaders in the real estate and hospitality world for over 30 years and have been honored by multiple charities across the country. Merchants currently employs over 800 people and is headquartered on Wall Street at the center of the financial district in NYC.
