About Mercy Center
Mercy Center is a community-based resource center with over 30 years of experience creating opportunities for women, men and families in the South Bronx to grow and thrive through education, family, civic, social and economic programs. We build community with a spirit of hospitality, respect and equity in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy. Today, Mercy Center serves more than 4,400 participants annually, addressing the chronic challenges of unemployment, poverty, limited educational opportunities, and family instability. Since becoming incorporated in 1995 and receiving 501(c)(3) status the following year, Mercy Center has grown from a small volunteer counseling service into a thriving organization offering comprehensive, holistic services. Our programs provide participants with opportunities to develop skills in English language proficiency, workforce readiness, education, and family well-being. We serve the entire family – from children to adults – with the belief that empowering adults through education and personal development leads to the greater social and academic success of their children. Mercy Center’s programs include Adult Education and Workforce Development, Immigration and Asylum Seeker Services, Youth Programs, Family Skills, Social Services and Community Education, and Personal Development. These interconnected services are designed to meet the evolving needs of our diverse community, creating pathways for participants to achieve economic stability, build stronger families, and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
