About Mermaids: The University of St Andrews Performing Arts Fund

Welcome to Mermaids! Mermaids is the performing arts funding body for St Andrews students. This means that we do not put on shows ourselves. Instead, any student can propose a show that they want to put up. We provide the funding, advice, expertise and enthusiasm to help them put on the show that they want. It’s about supporting writers, directors, producers, stage managers, actors, lighting designers, costume makers, props enthusiasts, set builders, make-up artists, and all other creative types in engaging with the performing arts. We fund around 30 shows a year, from Shakespeare to contemporary drama, including pieces written by students and pieces performed in non-conventional venues. Whether you want to act, direct, produce, design sets, stage-manage, tech or write, Mermaids gives you the opportunity to learn and develop these skills.
