About MetaverseUA Chair
The Chair for the Responsible Development of the Metaverse (MetaverseUA Chair) was created by the University of Alicante (Spain) and financed by Meta Platforms under its XR Program and Research Funds. Our purpose is to promote independent research on the legal and ethical aspects of the development of the metaverse. In particular, our research activities aim to assess: a) Whether the existing legal framework ensures that citizens, including minors and other sensitive collectives, are adequately protected in their relations in the Metaverse; and b) Whether it provides the legal certainty entrepreneurs need to develop new technologies or to expand their traditional business activities to the new medium. To carry out these activities, our team at the University is advised by the Chair’s Scientific Committee that includes experts from different disciplines and European countries.
