About Methom
Methom is a family business, founded in 2023, which purpose is to develop a local renewable methane sector in Guadeloupe. On this island, methane gas is already produced in significant quantities (in the form of biogas). Currently, it is converted into electricity. In the future, it could be used as Natural Gas for Vehicles (NGV). In France, the development of NGV is driven by the sharp increase in biogas production. Farmers, food industry, and local communities produce biogas from their organic waste. After purification, this biogas is injected into the network near production sites and distributed remotely in service stations. Vehicles using this biomethane (bioNGV) reduce their emissions by 80% compared to fossil natural gas. The Caribbean region does not have a gas network. Most methane is imported and fossil. To enable shipment from exporting countries, it is liquefied at low temperature and stored in large bulk. Once it arrives at destination, this Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is regasified and primarily used in power plants. We believe that renewable methane is essential to energy transition of vehicles in the Caribbean (road and maritime transport). Liquefaction and storage in smaller tanks is well-suited to biogas production and fuel distribution from service stations. Such a system can serve the entire Caribbean, powering numerous vehicles, while benefiting from decades of experience with NGV and LNG. Produced locally, liquefied biomethane (LBM) helps islands, with fragile power grids, transition away from oil, in complete safety and sovereignty. This project deserves to be supported in Guadeloupe: partners are welcome.
