In October 2005 Michael and Bryan Snelson co-authored Portfolio First Aid “Expert Advice for Healthier investing”, published by John Wiley & Sons Canada Ltd. It was well received and went to a second printing in February 2006. In October 2009 came an updated Financial First Aid for Canadian Investors, stop the bleeding, start the healing and get your portfolio on the road to recovery. which addresses current concerns with a distinctively Canadian focus. A lost opening decade in what was meant to be a glorious new, wealth-building millennium has taught many extremely painful investment lessons and left chastened and wounded investors with much ground to be made up. It was the lack of preparedness of investors and their advisors through the unexpected testing opening years that motivated Michael and Bryan Snelson to write Portfolio First Aid, published in 2005, so that investors and their advisors might be better prepared for the next cataclysm. Little did anyone realize it would come as soon as it did. Hence Financial First Aid for Canadian Investors, the sequel to our earlier work, with its updated advice on how to “Stop the Bleeding, Start the Healing, and Get Your Portfolio on the Road to Recovery”. With this book our mission was to help investors and their advisors better understand a real-life drama that Hollywood couldn’t have scripted better. We also wanted investors to be encouraged by the products and tools available to them in today’s investment marketplace – not the structured and derivative products that almost brought down entire financial systems, but genuine products that add value and reduce risk. Finally, we wanted to capture the excitement of a world in which investment is becoming more necessary than ever, a new-look Canada is an increasingly enviable part, and in which there could be extraordinary investment opportunity.
