About Michael Haydn Orchestra Manchester
The idea of the orchestra was conceived upon the meeting of two musicians: Marco Bellasi and Savva Zverev. They share a passion for discovering rarely performed and undeservedly forgotten works, as well as bringing out the hidden historical background of famous masterpieces. Michael Haydn was Salzburg’s leading composer during his lifetime and a respected composition teacher who taught, amongst others, C.M. von Weber. He also was Leopold Mozart’s contender and an idol of the little Wolfgang, his name and oeuvre were overshadowed by the fame of his brother Joseph, and eventually faded away from the proscenium. The name Michael Haydn perfectly represents our aim to go beyond the classical music stereotypes, engaging our audience to dig deeper into the mysteries surrounding genius and creativity. Comprising mostly of students and alumni of the Royal Northern College of Music, the Michael Haydn Orchestra also brings together musicians from the leading collectives of the UK and abroad. We organise concerts which celebrate Manchester's cultural heritage, remembering important events that took place here. During our concerts we will combine music making with presentations in collaboration with leading specialists of the topics we seek to explore. Our first concert will held in Manchester Cathedral on May 17 2019 at 7.30 pmFriday May 17 at 7.30 pm in Manchester Cathedral Programme: Maria Malibran: Three songs for soprano: - Le Moribond (‘Death’) - La Retoure de la Tyrolienne - ‘Away o’er the blue waves of the Ocean’ Michael Haydn: Violin concerto in A Major, MH 207. Malibran: Aria from the opera Otello “Assisa a pié d’un salice”. F. Mendelssohn: “Infelice” Concert aria for soprano, violin concertante and orchestra. version from 1834.
