MICHAEL RUGGIERO project starts in 2020 with the main purpose to offer an unconventional sartorial product, that respect the planet, with sustainable approach. The brand design zero-waste garments, starting from the paper pattern to use the 100 % of the fabric selected for the creation of the cloth. Each piece requests a research and a study on its structure to design an atypical paper pattern. The brand defined this atypical way to design garments “Experimental Off-Centre Tailoring Method” or “Off-centre tailoring”. It is very close to the sartorial aesthetic, the structure and focus on details appear in all the pieces, but some sartorial rules are changed to get a sustainable concept. The traditional tailoring follows some rules during the cutting steps that makes waste of fabric, for example the rule that paper pattern follows the straight grain of the fabric. In the off-centre tailoring, the fabric is cut into stripes, rectangles or squares and the paper pattern will have the same shape that cover all the pieces of the fabric. The garment design is changed with the fabric excess. From 2022, the brand has introduced digital design, using the Clo3D software. This way allows to get a real 3D simulation of the garment, that it can help to design and show a product without making it, to optimize resources and reduce the production of prototypes.
