A second-generation family-run wine shop nestled in stunning South Devon countryside. We have a hand-picked range of eclectic wines suitable for all palates. The business is run by us, Jonathan and Suzie Sutton. We have a comprehensive range of hand-picked wines and we work closely with Anthony Barne MW who advises and supports us on our choices. We absolutely love working and discovering new wines and are very keen to share our knowledge with others or just sell you a decent bottle of wine! Our founder was Jonathan’s late father, Michael Sutton, who had been a wine lover for some considerable time. When he retired from farming, he pursued his interest in wine more seriously. So with the help and encouragement of his great friend Ronnie Hicks MW, he set up Michael Sutton’s Cellar in 1985 in an old barn next door to the farmhouse in which he lived. Michael’s ethos was to only sell wines that he liked to drink, and which represented good value for money. He was a friendly, hospitable wine merchant who was always willing to share his knowledge of wine with anyone who would care to listen whilst enjoying a glass. Over the years Michael and his wife, Juliet often travelled through Europe and to Australia to meet the wine producers and build up lifelong relationships. We manage the business with those same values today and always enjoy finding new wines for our customers. We are friendly & approachable so please don’t be intimidated by popping in to see us anytime.
