About Michigan Headache & Neurological Institute
The Michigan Headache & Neurological Institute (MHNI) located in Ann Arbor was founded in 1978 by Dr. Joel Saper and colleagues. It is the nation's first comprehensive head pain treatment center, providing both outpatient and hospital based advanced programming for headache and related disorders. MHNI is accredited by the Joint Commission. Its renowned hospital program treats the Institute’s most severe cases, many of which are referred to MHNI from around the world. The Institute's advanced and pioneering programs have influenced the development of headache medicine worldwide. Among its many awards and recognized achievements, MHNI is the recipient of the first Center of Excellence Award for headache by the American Pain Society. MHNI utilizes a multidisciplinary team of specially trained physicians, PAs, NPs, Ph.D. psychologists, RNs, physical therapists and technicians. MHNI’s specialized divisions including Headache, Neurology, Pain Management, Behavioral Medicine, Clinical Research, Sleep Medicine, Physical Therapy and Hospital offer a broad array of advanced treatment services. MHNI’s large clinical research division actively participates in a wide range of medication and device studies. MHNI is the only specialty center for head pain awarded national accreditation by the Joint Commission and has received numerous prestigious awards for more than 40 years. These awards recognize staff and program excellence, applying national standards and procedures to a program devoted to the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of headache and pain disorders.
