Microaccess (MA) is a medical device company whom presents a platform technology for left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) through a patented transesophageal (TE) approach. MA has been issued broad based method and device patents for TE surgery for which there are numerous applications including heart, lung, and spine. Current focus is on the cardiac applications of TE surgery, specifically for LAAC in patients with atrial fibrillation (afib) in order to prevent strokes, which is the leading cause of disability in the US. Transesophageal Surgical Left Atrial Ablation (TESLAA) device is a novel medical device envisioned as a “stent-like” base module within the esophagus. Through an endoscopic “scarless” procedure with use of the TESLAA device, afib through left atrial ablation can be curative. As the incidence of afib continues to grow worldwide, there develops an increasing need to cure and/or treat atrial fibrillation more effectively and safely. This procedure is an alternative to current standard of care to treat afib which is oral anticoagulants/ablative procedures.
