About Midwestern Intermediate Unit 4 School District
Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV (MIU IV) is a regional education and community service agency dedicated to enhancing learning across Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer Counties in Pennsylvania. As one of 29 Intermediate Units, we partner with 27 school districts and 3 vocational-technical schools. Our Mission: We provide educational and administrative leadership, programs, services, and resources that empower individuals to meet global challenges. Our dedicated staff customizes solutions for our diverse educational community. What We Do: We act as a vital link between the Pennsylvania Department of Education, local districts, and communities. Our services include: Special Education: Comprehensive early intervention (ages 3-5), IU-operated special education classrooms (Autistic Support, ABA, Multi-disabilities, Partial Hospitalization), and itinerant support (Adapted PE, Audiological, OT/PT, Speech, Vision, Inclusion). Our Training and Consultation (TaC) staff also provides professional development. Continuing Education & Professional Development: We offer Act 48 courses, Guest Teacher/Classroom Monitor training, and technology workshops, enhancing face-to-face, blended, and online learning. Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment: We support districts in developing effective curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices to improve student outcomes. Technology Integration: We use advanced technology to streamline educational processes and enhance learning. Business Services: We manage fiscal matters, health benefits, building/grounds, and organize special projects. Community and Support Programs: This includes Arts in Education (like the "Very Special Arts" exhibit) and resources for bullying prevention and vocational training. By collaborating with our partner districts and staying current with educational trends, MIU IV fosters learning, growth, and success for all students and educators in our region.
