About Ministry of Health - Jordan
The Ministry of Health of Jordan was established in 1921 and underwent several organizational developments until it became an independent ministry in 1950. Since then, the ministry has led a comprehensive health renaissance, despite the challenges and difficult circumstances the country has faced. One of its earliest achievements was the creation of regional health departments, followed by the establishment of the first nursing school in 1953, and later, the founding of the School of Medicine at the University of Jordan in 1970 and the opening of the King Hussein Medical City in 1973. The ministry holds comprehensive responsibility for public health by providing preventive, curative, and regulatory health services, organizing and supervising health services, and providing health insurance to citizens based on available resources. It also works to promote healthy lifestyles, combat diseases, and encourage breastfeeding. In coordination with relevant entities, the ministry continues to develop the health sector to ensure integrated medical services for all citizens.
