About Miranda Leigh Nelson Foundation

On May 28, 2021 our lives changed forever when our daughter, Miranda, took her own life at age 25. She had been dealing with mental health issues for most of her life. Despite the hurdles in her way, she developed a passion for animals and a desire to work in mental health services. Miranda Miranda had earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in human services from Cal State Fullerton in 2018 and was pursuing a career in mental health services. She had been very involved with animals throughout her life and was concerned with their welfare and the sustainability of their natural environments. The Foundation We have established a private foundation, an IRS-approved tax-exempt 501(c)(3) corporation, to memorialize Miranda’s life by increasing awareness of mental health issues and effecting the type of impact she was trying to make. The foundation makes annual grants to several fully vetted tax-exempt charities that work to improve animal welfare and mental health services. We expect the foundation's grantmaking to continue through 2041. Please contact us if you would like more information about the foundation.
