About MIST Carolina

The Muslim Interscholastic Tournament (MIST) is an annual competition designed to bring together high school students to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills while exploring their identity and faith in a competitive yet supportive environment. Mission & Purpose: MIST aims to inspire students to discover and develop their talents through academic, artistic, and athletic competitions rooted in Islamic values. It fosters a sense of community among Muslim youth while encouraging excellence and creativity. Structure: Regional Tournaments: Held in various cities across the U.S. and Canada, where teams compete locally. National Tournament: Winners from each region advance to compete at the national level, usually held during the summer. Competition Categories: MIST offers a wide variety of competitions, including: Academic: Debate, Quran Recitation, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Business Venture Arts & Humanities: Poetry, Spoken Word, Short Film, Photography, and Graphic Design STEM & Social Sciences: Science Fair, Creative Writing, and Research Methods Sports & Team Events: Basketball, Soccer, and Group Projects Community & Leadership: Social Media, MIST Bowl (trivia-style competition), and Community Service Who Can Participate? High school students (grades 9-12) Muslim and non-Muslim students are welcome Participants can compete individually or as part of a team representing their school or local community Why Participate? - Develop leadership and teamwork skills - Showcase talents in academics, arts, and athletics - Network with like-minded students and mentors - Compete for scholarships and awards - Strengthen identity and connection with the Muslim community
