About Mitotype Precision Labs

At Mitotype Precision Labs we specialise in complex mitochondrial phenotypic assays in a high throughput format. We aim to provide customers with the vital information they need to make fast, early decisions about compound progression in drug discovery to save money and time. Our mitochondrial screening is undertaken in patient-derived cells, enabling assessment of compound activity and efficacy for many complex diseases such as neurodegeneration, cancer and diabetes. We use state-of-the-art techniques, developed by Professor Heather Mortiboys over the last decade, to measure numerous mitochondrial characteristics. This includes, but is not limited to, function, morphology, mitochondrial reactive oxygen species production, mitochondrial DNA, mitophagy and the interaction of mitochondria with other organelles. This vast amount of data, collected in high throughput screens, can be condensed into a single score of mitochondrial health enabling rapid interpretation of the data and early termination of ineffective compounds. It also provides a solid platform for further target validation and mechanism of action studies for effective compounds. All of our screens, from early to late preclinical discovery, are conducted in patient-derived cells to best replicate complex diseases and ensure the greatest confidence in translation to successful trials in the clinic.
