About Mitrata-Nepal Foundation for Children
Mitrata-Nepal Foundation for Children, Inc., is a nonprofit, 501(C)(3) organization in the USA. We serve over 100 needy children in Nepal working with our partner NGO, Bhuvaneshwori Satyal Foundation. We provide individualized education, housing and healthcare, empowerment, career development/ scholarships and operational support/oversight. Individualized education: Matching children with schools that meet their individual needs and helping them become independent self-sufficient adults. Some children attend boarding schools. Some live at home depending on need. We provide extra services, e.g., music programs, tutoring classes, entrance exam prep courses, computer courses and field trips. Housing and Healthcare: Providing dental care, braces, vaccinations, glasses and regular annual exams. When children need surgeries or unexpected health issues arise, we take care of them. Empowerment: Offering counseling/ resources to help each child develop his/her potential, complete 12th grade and attend vocational/university education. We motivate children through contact with sponsors and staff who offer encouragement and support. Our child sponsors have regular personal contact and serve to encourage and build the self-esteem of our children. Careers and scholarships: Providing scholarships for further education beyond 12th grade.Our commitment is to see a child through to adulthood to become a contributing citizen of Nepal. Operational support and oversight: Operating two Contact Centers, an educational "headstart" program for up to 70 kids each year. The Contact Centers prepare children with skills needed for school. Then we enroll them in private schools. We consult with board members and work closely with staff to ensure that our programs are implemented effectively and with care/ nurturance. Board members and staff in USA make regular trips to Nepal for oversight and receive financial/evaluation reports, calls and emails.
