About Model United Nations

Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations and other multilateral bodies, designed to immerse students in the dynamics of international diplomacy, negotiation, and policymaking. First formally organized in the late 1940s in the wake of World War II and the founding of the UN, MUN emerged as a response to the growing need for global citizenship education and cross-cultural dialogue. Its roots lie in earlier simulations like the League of Nations roleplays at Harvard and Oxford, evolving into a structured pedagogical tool used in universities and secondary schools worldwide. Over the past seven decades, MUN has grown into a globally recognized platform, with major conferences taking place on every continent and involving hundreds of thousands of participants annually. These simulations are not mere exercises in public speaking; they replicate the complexity of international governance—complete with detailed rules of procedure, country assignments, draft resolutions, multilateral blocs, and crisis response mechanisms.
