About Model United Nations: World Issues & Social Justice Club
Bishop Ryan's Model United Nations: World Issues & Social Justice Club was created at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year. Founded by Adam Alkazely, the goal is to bring awareness to the issues and injustices that are not talked about enough. Our club understands it may be uncomfortable to talk about certain issues, but it is because they are uncomfortable that we must bring awareness. The original goal of the club was to enhance the communication skills of students through Model United Nations—a simulation of the real United Nations where world issues play a prominent role. After educating ourselves on crisis' and problems occurring in our world, we decided to take action. The club went from a group of people with similar interests to a group of people with similar interests that act. Through campaigns, fundraising, newsletters, presentations, and more, the club is dedicated to cultivating an environment where no one turns a blind eye and no one is scared to speak up. One of our notable achievements this year was our participation in a provincial Model United Nations conference, where our delegates provided an outstanding performance and commitment to addressing global issues. Additionally, we launched a monthly newsletter that highlights important but often overlooked issues, provides updates on our activities, and features articles written by club members. Looking ahead, we plan to expand our outreach by collaborating with other schools and community organizations, hosting guest speakers, and organizing more events that encourage active participation in social justice initiatives. We also aim to create a mentorship program to help new members develop their skills in research, public speaking, and advocacy. Our club is open to all students who are passionate about making a difference. If you're interested in joining or learning more, please contact us or follow us on our social media platforms for the latest updates.
