About Modern Building

Modern Building Company is a diverse northern California-based general contractor, excited to continue the legacy of building with passion and doing what we love to do. Founded in 1946, Modern has grown steadily, recently celebrating their 75th anniversary in business. The company’s first project was building Quonset huts during World War II. Since those early days, Modern has continued to expand their capabilities and experience to better serve their clients and continue to add to their long list of raving fans. Although the majority of our work is in Northern California, we are licensed in the states of California, Oregon, Nevada and Montana. Work in these neighboring states is the direct result of satisfied clients who requested we travel to meet their needs on subsequent projects, including as far as North Carolina. The owners of Modern Building are all “hands on”, at the office and engaged daily, involved in a wide variety of building projects. Our office staff includes a diverse team of project managers, assistant project managers, estimators, project engineers, and experienced front office administrative personnel. In the field, we have over 20 project superintendents and foremen, and over 40 of our own carpenters, concrete finishers and laborers. Modern executes our concrete work in-house. Today, Modern is engaged in a wide variety of construction types - concrete tilt wall facilities, multi-story steel frame buildings, single and multi-story wood frame buildings on concrete slabs, pre-engineered steel buildings, commercial, health care and medical offices, schools, retail structures, tenant improvements, apartments and more. We pride ourselves at being our clients’ one-stop-shop for all of their building needs, with projects ranging in size from 1,000 square feet to over 800,000 square feet, and from $1,000 to multi-million dollar contracts.
