About Modern Memoirs
YOUR memoir, the way YOU want it. We specialize in self-publication of memoirs and family histories, in book or eBook form. We co-create as-told-to (commissioned) memoirs, meaning we conduct interviews with the narrator, then provide services including transcription, editing, light fact-checking, design/format, print/bind. We also handle assisted memoirs, where you submit your manuscript and we help to create the beautiful book you envision. We make it easy, we make it personal, and we make it enjoyable for you. Modern Memoirs, Inc. was established in 1994 because founder Kitty Axelson-Berry wanted to honor her mother's life experiences in archival form. In part, Kitty also wanted to understand how keeping her husband and daughters safe and well-fed became her mother's life mission. Realizing that others would want their own or their parents' memoirs, too, and that books are the most user-friendly, archival, and comprehensive format, Kitty left her job as the editor of an alternative newsweekly and started the business. Modern Memoirs focuses on personal service and high-quality writing, editing, design, and publishing services for clients. We make memoirs happen for them, from inception to publication.
