About Monash Rural Health
Monash Rural Health is a multi-site school within the Monash University Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and is Australia’s oldest rural clinical school. The School has a 1000-kilometre footprint spanning from Mildura in the north, to Orbost in the east, and to Wonthaggi in the south and is integrated within regional hospitals and health services. Monash Rural Health is funded by the Commonwealth Government’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Program and the Murray Darling Medical Schools’ Network. These schemes are designed to increase the recruitment and retention of the rural health workforce, including medical, nursing and allied health professionals, to ultimately improve the health of Australians living in regional, rural and remote areas. This is done by attracting rural origin students, embedding students within rural communities across Victoria, and providing ongoing, local training for junior doctors to work and live rurally.
