About Moral Alignment Center
At The Moral Alignment Center, we are committed to establishing ethical alignment with the interests of all sentient beings as a vital field that shapes how AI is developed and deployed. By fostering a vibrant interdisciplinary community and partnering with changemakers in AI, effective altruism, social justice, and environmental and animal advocacy, we will bring together researchers, ethicists, technologists, and advocates to strengthen and expand the emerging field of Moral Alignment. Our mission is to grow and strengthen the community of people steering AI to benefit all sentient beings. Our goals: - Define and Frame the Field: Establish Moral Alignment as a recognized discipline through foundational research, publications, online content, and global dialogue. - Attract Talent and Resources into the space. - Build a Collaborative Community where individuals passionate about this cause can unite to drive meaningful change. - Raise Awareness: Spark dialogue and increase public understanding of AI’s ethical impact on all sentient beings. Key Interventions: Community and Field Building - Produce online content to define and strengthen the field of Moral Alignment. Engage ambassadors to present the cause at relevant conferences. - Host in-person and online meetups and events, and conduct 1:1 outreach. - Produce or promote relevant research. - Initiate Coordinated Action and Advocacy - Meta Fundraising in the neglected Moral Alignment space. - Public Awareness What is Moral Alignment? It is a new space within the broader AI alignment and AI safety spaces, focusing on the values we aim to instill in AI. While AI alignment focuses on ensuring systems act according to human intentions, emphasizing controllability and corrigibility (adaptability to changing human preferences), it often neglects a crucial question: what are the best morals with which to align AI, and how could this be done?
