About Motherhood Village

Motherhood Village Ltd is a registered health promotion charity based on the Gold Coast, dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of mothers and parents during the perinatal period - pregnancy, birth, and the early years of parenting. Born from lived experience and grounded in evidence-based frameworks, we provide free, accessible, and community-led peer support services to those navigating the complex challenges of perinatal mental health. Our peer support groups are safe, inclusive, and non-clinical spaces facilitated by trained peer workers with firsthand experience of perinatal mental illness, including postnatal depression, anxiety, birth trauma, and postpartum psychosis. These sessions offer emotional support, reduce isolation, and help parents feel seen, heard, and understood - without judgment and without cost. We currently run regular open-access support groups across the Gold Coast, including specialty groups for: Perinatal Mental Health Peer Support (conception through to 5 years post birth) Support for mothers recovering from acute perinatal mental illness (e.g., Lavender Unit, mother-baby wards) Antenatal mental health support Grief & Loss Bereavement Loss support Village Art for Perinatal Mental Health Mental Health Peer Support for Medical & Health Professionals Support for Dads Volunteering In addition to group support, we provide: Referrals and warm handovers to appropriate clinical and community services Psychoeducation and practical resources to build confidence and coping skills Collaborative partnerships with GPs, psychologists, hospitals, and maternal health services At Motherhood Village, we believe no parent should suffer in silence. Our model is grounded in the power of connection, equity, and prevention. We meet parents where they are, walk alongside them, and advocate for a system where mental health support is timely, respectful, and human. Together, we are building a village where all families can thrive.
