About Mount Airy City Schools
Mount Airy City Schools is K-12 public school system located in Mount Airy, North Carolina. As one of fifteen city school districts in the state, this small system boasts a family environment for both students and staff. The district employs over 250 employees and has over 1,700 students enrolled. Students attend BH Tharrington Primary School, JJ Jones Intermediate School, Mount Airy Middle School, and Mount Airy High School. Families, the local community, and businesses have gone above and beyond in helping MACS ensure students have solid learning experiences and are provided what is needed to excel in the classroom and on the field. The district's motto of Lead - Innovate - Serve is visible in all aspects of school and life. Students begin discovering skills in leadership, innovation, and service at an early age through Leader in Me Lighthouse Schools (BHT and Jones) and the district’s STEAM framework. Mount Airy Middle School has been labeled a Schools to Watch since 2013 and Mount Airy High School is a National Blue Ribbon School for 2011. The innovative staff of MACS worked to ensure that students didn’t lose during the COVID-19 pandemic. MACS was the only district in the state to return face-to-face five days a week in August 2020. This represents the dedication of staff members to do what is best for students.
