About Mountain Climate Fund
The Mountain Climate Fund is a nonprofit that supports mountain communities and environments adapt to climate change. Why Mountains Mountains are home to one billion people worldwide. They provide fresh water and resources for over half of the globe. They are also experiencing some of the most dramatic impacts of climate change. Our focus is the Himalayas where melting glaciers and retreating snow lines are creating a water crisis. Our Strategy Adapting to climate change is going to require innovation. Climate change has created problems that are new and daunting. They will require new and creative solutions to overcome them. We work closely with local partners and communities to develop ideas, pilot projects, and bring the most promising ones to scale. Our Solutions Our solutions mitigate the worst impacts of climate change and bring access to sustainable water to mountain communities. They include building artificial glaciers for irrigation water and solar water pumps to connect water from rivers and lakes to community reservoirs. Our Goal By 2028, all villages in the Zanskar River Valley will have sustainable water for agriculture, drinking, and household use. This summer will be implementing a solar water project in Remala Village. The glaciers above the village have vanished and it is on the brink of abandonment. Our project will transport water over 600 meters from the Stod River, providing a long-term source of water to the community. The MCF Team Our team has a long and successful history of working with Indigenous and remote communities throughout the Himalayan region. We bring decades of nonprofit and private sector executive experience and have a track record of solving difficult problems with limited resources.
