About Mountain Shepherd Adventure School
Welcome to Mountain Shepherd Adventure School, where outdoor education and corporate adventure meet! Mountain Shepherd is located near Virginia’s New River and Roanoke valleys, with access to the legendary Appalachian Trail. Our 100-acre property features outdoor classrooms, hiking trails, and a modern, yet rustic lodge with nine cozy bunk rooms sleeping 46, private bathrooms, a large conference room, and the Pitchwood Pub, where all can gather for meals and relaxation. Mountain Shepherd is dedicated to learning outdoor survival skills and the development of employees, managers and leaders through experiences within the natural world. Participants explore the connection between the art AND science of survival in the wilderness and workplace. Over the course of the program, participants explore the 7 survival priorities and their relationship to building strong teams, effective workplace communication, and achieving strategic goals. In addition, we explore the latest workplace-related brain research discovering how chronic stress, fatigue, and workplace burnout drain our reserves resulting in dysfunctional teams and ineffective communication. Our courses assist participants with building resilient, well-functioning teams, and improving crucial communication to create a high performing workplace environment. Through this experiential learning, participants: 1. Learn, by hands-on application and practice, the 7 survival skills for successfully navigating the wilderness and workplace; 2. Explore team building through the lens of wilderness survival discovering how to effectively navigate high-pressure, stressful situations; 3. Develop more effective communication skills enabling the dynamic flow of information throughout the organization; 4. Connect the latest brain research findings to specific behavioral changes for improved wilderness survival and workplace performance; and 5. Explore the impact of chronic stress, fatigue, workplace burnout on brain functioning.
