Since 1926, Boy Scouts of America have occupied lands at the woeful terminus of the 1855 forced relocation of Oregon’s Native Peoples. It has been the practice—across many generations of young visitors—to distort or omit the recounting of those events and the families still impacted by them. We aim to restore that narrative in a way that’s full and fair: By marking certain sites with signage that honors and gives voice to our silenced compatriots. It’s a tall order. One that requires optimism. And better adjectives.
