About MUD
Manchester Urban Diggers CIC (MUD) is a social enterprise, working to create food system change and empower communities. We create grassroots, people-led farming projects, growing sustainable and healthy food for Manchester communities. For our dedicated work in supporting communities, groups and organisations across Manchester, we have have received multiple awards and recognitions: Most recently, we won Project of the Year 2023 at the Manchester Food & Drink awards. We have been identified by GMCVO as an example of ‘Best Practice for an Inclusive Economy’. We were supported by MP Afzal Kahn in the House of Commons, highlighting our examples of repurposing green spaces, and we were also used as a case study for the government's Levelling Up Scheme. In 2022, we won the RHS Britain In Bloom’s discretionary ‘Pride of Manchester’ award and the ‘Dena Murphy’ award in 2023 in recognition of PFMG and our community work in Manchester. We are involved in 3 of the largest Green Spaces Award projects - BUG in Beswick, Forever Fields in Whalley Range & Collyhurst. We also offer a plethora of services that help us keep our vision alive: Sustainable Catering services (@MUD Kitchen), Corporate Social Responsibility opportunities ( you can find some more information on this here - https://www.wearemud.org/team-building-days ), ESG, Horticulture & Food Growing Workshops, Community Garden Consultancy, Design & Build, Venue hire (Platt Fields Market Garden), Fresh locally grown and sourced produce. Our objectives as a not-for-profit are; Start a food system change in Manchester by promoting food sovereignty & developing food production sites on disused urban plots of land. Improve the mental & physical wellbeing of the local residents through creating beautiful spaces together. Reignite communities around the gardens we create through beautiful spaces and good food, improving community cohesion and decreasing loneliness.
