About Mullins and Associates
Rick Mullins, JD, MBA, CPA, President Rick grew up in El Paso before graduating with an accounting degree from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene in 1985. He taught accounting and was a revenue agent in the Dallas District of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) before going back to school to get his law degree and MBA. After completing his legal course work in 1992, Rick worked at the Houston office of Ernst & Young, LLP (EY) while continuing his MBA course work and passing the CPA exam. After completing his MBA and leaving EY, Rick worked as a CPA, and practiced law for a short time before accepting a position as an author and technical editor with the Thomson Legal & Regulatory Group - Practitioners Publishing Company (PPC), now a subsidiary of ThomsonReuters. While at PPC, Rick was the managing editor of PPC’s Guides to Dealing with the IRS and was a co-author of books on retirement, estate, and life insurance planning strategies. Using what he learned in Houston, Rick started a small oil and gas business in 1996. With gross receipts starting from less than $100,000 and growing to over $35 million in just over a decade, he has direct experience in starting and growing a businesses. Although his accounting firm specializes in accounting, tax compliance, and tax planning, his experience on other small business issues is available to each small business client as they expand and nurture their business to its fullest potential. He is a member of many public accounting and bar associations and is active on several committees dealing with small business regulation and finance. Since 1988 he has been very happily married to Theresa Mullins and they have five children.
