About Murphy&Nye®
Murphy&Nye® is one of the oldest and most prestigious brands in international yachting. Its origins date back to 1933, when Jim Murphy and Harry Nye Jr. founded the Murphy & Nye sail loft in Chicago, which will become one of the reference points in the world of competitive sailing for over five decades. It was the 1950s when the first Murphy&Nye® garments were born in the Elston Avenue loft: handcrafted with the same techniques and the same materials as the sails, they were a proud homage to the owner by the sailmakers who in the previous weeks had made the sails of his yacht. A tradition that continued until the 1980s, when a small shop attached to the sail loft was opened in the Italian headquarters of the sail loft in La Spezia, which in the meantime had acquired the brand from the American company. In short, this becomes the reference point for sailors who come from all over to buy Murphy&Nye® garments. Thus was born the Murphy&Nye® Sailwear clothing line and the idea of distributing it through the ship chandlers in the ports. In 1992, Raul Gardini chose Murphy&Nye® as the official supplier of the Moro di Venezia and for the first time the use of high-tech materials such as kevlar was experimented to make very light and resistant dry suits. There are also some iconic items never seen before in the nautical world, such as the sage green vest by Paul Cayard and the multi-pocket technical bermuda shorts in Breton red, called Catalina. Murphy&Nye® is increasingly establishing itself in the world of racing aboard numerous America's Cup teams: Swiss Challenger 2000, Le Defì France 2003, Team Germany and China Team in 2007 and the current holders of the America's Cup Emirates Team New Zealand of which Murphy & Nye was technical supplier for two America's Cup campaigns. In 2024, Murphy&Nye® is Sponsor of Barcolana, the largest sailing race in the world, for the 15th time in its history.
