Museum Conservation Services Ltd are a specialist firm offering high quality conservation and restoration work for art on paper, historic photographs and organic artefacts. Founded in 1974 as part of the UK Government funded Area Museums Service, MCS became a company in 1995. We can, and do, now also work for art galleries, historic houses, universities, the National Trust, libraries, insurance companies, private individuals and major auction houses. We have been fortunate treat artworks by masters including Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Poussin, Turner, Constable, Degas, Picasso, Giacometti, Modigliani, Warhol and Banksy alongside exquisite Indian miniatures from the Robert and Lisa Sainsbury Collection. High quality practical work is complimented by in-house conservation mounting and framing as well as conservation surveys, advice on storage, display and conservation priorities All our conservators are experienced, have undergone years of specialist training and keep up to date with developments. MCS is listed on the conservation register maintained by ICON. Our conservation studios are large, superbly equipped and housed within the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. Our alarm system is backed up by on-site security 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Photographic conservation projects include daguerreotypes by Girault de Prangey, 125 daguerreotypes for the Ruskin Library, an exhibition for Qatar Museums Authority, Herbert Ponting=s negatives from Captain Scott=s 1911 Antarctic expedition, images by Helmut Newton, Robert Capa, Joel Peter Witkin, Roger Fenton, Irving Penn, Frederick Hollyer, F M Sutcliffe, Hill and Adamson and many others. Organics conservation is carried out by an accredited organics conservator. Projects include an ancient Egyptian cartonnage mummy case, a Maori shell trumpet with original wooden mouthpiece and flax mute, North West coast wooden armour, an 18th century anatomical skeleton and flood damaged leather covered jewellery boxes.
