About Museum of Contemporary Art
Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) NGO unites professionals working in Ukraine’s contemporary art sphere, works to develop the field, and advocates for creating a new type of museum institution in Ukraine. Since 2020 we put our minds and efforts into the art system developing projects. We focus on primary issues that grant more access to contemporary art in Ukraine for the professional community and broader audiences, in particular, through advanced museum activities; we work on conditions for productive work in the field of contemporary art, using comprehensive holistic approaches. Our strategic initiatives are in three directions: Institutional field; Science and Education; Interaction with the authorities. After Russia’s full scale invasion in February 2022, we have focused on projects reflecting on these days of war. To deal with the consequences of the Russian invasion and threats the war poses on the Ukrainian art community – MOCA NGO, in partnership with Zaborona, The Naked Room and Mystetskyi Arsenal established the Ukrainian Emergency Art Fund. Our mission only became more critical — boosting the vibrant and lively voices of Ukrainian cultural professionals and artists is crucial for sharing our values, vision for future, and understanding of what we’re fighting for. Our actual priorities: community: emergency support and development opportunities for the art community in Ukraine; wartime art practices observation, special curatorial projects; and country transformations caused by the development of advanced art system (a new type of professional museum as a core element)
