About Musical Bridges Around the World
Musical Bridges Around the World (MBAW) is a nonprofit arts organization based in San Antonio, Texas, dedicated to uniting people through the power of music, dance, and visual art. Our mission is to celebrate shared humanity by providing free access to global arts experiences for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Founded in 1998 by Russian-born pianist Dr. Anya Grokhovski, MBAW connects world-class international artists with Texas communities through engaging programs that foster cultural diversity, music education, and community well-being. We produce a wide range of free public concerts, arts education programs, and senior outreach performances, helping to make the fine arts accessible and relevant across generations. Core Programs: • Russell Hill Rogers Musical Evenings – Free global music concert series in downtown San Antonio • The Gurwitz International Piano Competition – A prestigious quadrennial competition promoting classical piano and cultural exchange • UNITYFest – A free public multicultural music and arts festival • Musical Sprouts – Free educational initiative that blends live performances with arts-infused, culturally-focused curriculum for elementary students • Golden Age – Free live music concerts for senior living and retirement communities • MBAW Youth Ambassadors – A leadership and performance program for young musicians involving concerts, volunteering, and professional development • Colburn-Pledge Music Scholarship – Financial support for college students pursuing performance careers in bowed string instruments At MBAW, we envision a world where the arts are accessible to all, cultural diversity is celebrated, and communities are united through shared artistic experiences.
