Queen Victoria was on the throne when James Musk, trading from a butcher’s shop on Newmarket’s High Street, founded the company in 1884. His recipe has been passed down through the generations and to this day remains a closely guarded secret. The same family ran the Company until the early 70’s, when the shop moved to a delicatessen in Newmarket’s shopping precinct and later a factory was built on the north side of town. Thereafter the recipe was sold on until the present owners became involved in 1999. The factory facilities have now been brought up-to-date. Musk’s famous original Newmarket sausages are handmade to an exacting standard from the best fully traceable British pork shoulder meat and a secret blend of spices encased in natural skins to retain the succulence for which they are renowned. Of course, no colouring or additives are used, the very idea being as unthinkable now as it was in James Musk’s day. Made with care in small batches by a team to whom customer satisfaction is all important, the hallmark of 19th Century quality is embodied in 21st Century produce. In 2005 the Company was granted a Royal Warrant from Her Majesty the Queen, having enjoyed Royal patronage previously from King George V, Edward, Prince of Wales and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. These four Warrants have been proudly held throughout the generations.
