The “Mutualité de Cautionnent” (MC) was created in December 1969 by the Chamber of Commerce as a cooperative company, driven by the Luxembourg Confederation and Horesca, with the aim of facilitating access to bank financing for Luxembourg companies. The year 2018 marked a new chapter for MC due to a deep reform of its organization and governance, aimed at better supporting entrepreneurship. MC’s mission is to address the lack of collateral faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing loan guarantees. It can act as a guarantor to accredited credit institutions when the guarantees provided by the entrepreneur are deemed insufficient. MC can intervene for viable investment projects presented by either traditional or innovative companies during their creation, development, modernization, or business transfer phases. Its primary goal is to support productive investments, not the financing of cash flow needs or financial restructuring. To benefit from an MC guarantee, the applicant must contact their bank, which will submit a request to MC on their behalf. Business incubators or other support players within the entrepreneurial ecosystem may also approach MC directly on behalf of project owners.
