About Mwangaza Foundation
MISSION: Mwangaza Foundation cares for children at risk in Songea, Tanzania, and improves the health and well-being of people in the surrounding area. CURRENT SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES: * Foundation funds food, shelter, schooling, medical care for 71 orphans--16 in private home and others in foster homes; long waiting list for admission * 25-acre site acquired for Kijiji Chema and for crop-growing to feed children and provide income * 2009: Completing architectural and engineering plans using green appropriate technology; going to bid and beginning Capital Campaign for funds; anticipated construction start date 2010 for Phase One 64-bed Kijiji Chema near Mwenge Mshindo village outside Songea * Child Sponsorship Program expanding to cover all children under care * Plans being drawn for 6-acre site to become animal-raising facility to feed children and provide income; fund raising underway to enable this GOALS: * Shelter 150 children and one “Mom” per 8 children in cluster of secure duplex homes * Provide total care through sponsorship of each child and agricultural/business development * Build and maintain health clinic for chronic illness oversight and good health protocols * Create and implement a life plan for each orphan to include schooling and/or vocational training as appropriate * Strengthen partnerships with NGOs and businesses in Tanzania and elsewhere * Create health, nutrition and other training for villagers near the Kijiji Chema * Create small business opportunities, especially for women, working with micro lending groups * Break cycle of poverty through good nutrition and education for children and women * Enable Kijiji Chema to be self sustaining by 2020
