About NAMI SWMO (The National Alliance on Mental Illness)

NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI Southwest Missouri is the local affiliate for NAMI in the Springfield, Missouri area. NAMI SWMO is also a partner agency with United Way of the Ozarks. We are a grassroots, not for profit organization dedicated to providing programs and services to individuals and family members impacted by mental illness. Our services include a Drop-In Center which includes support groups, and other activities for individuals with mental illness that help them to work toward recovery. Our services also include family education and support groups and community education programs that aide in breaking down stigma and discrimination. NAMI also contracts with the state to provide a Peer Support Warm Line that is available from 9:30 am – 5:00 pm on Monday thru Friday, 9:00 am – 3:30 pm on Saturday and 4:00 pm – 10:00 on Sunday. Mission: To improve the lives of persons affected by mental illness through support, education and advocacy. NAMI Southwest Missouri works to provide a total commitment to improving the lives of people affected by mental illness, both persons with these brain disorders and their families. This includes providing needed programs, information, services, support, and referrals. We also use education, community outreach, and advocacy to: ◦Increase knowledge and understanding of mental illness ◦Improve access to quality care, services, treatment, and opportunities; eradicate stigma and discrimination ◦Promote equal rights and greater research funding .
