About Nanhua University

一步一腳印，聚沙始成塔。位於嘉義縣大林鎮的南華大學，是百萬人願力的奇蹟，也是百萬人投注心力的實踐與果實。本校於1996年創立之初，由創辦人星雲大師發起「百萬人興學」的活動，以每人每月捐資100元，為期3年，期凝聚眾人的心力成就建校的志業。因之，本校的一草一木，各項建設與發展，皆是十方大眾胼手胝足與百萬人心力灌溉所成就，所成長。於是，懷具百年樹人之志、秉持感恩回饋十方之心，是南華辦學治校最彌足珍貴之處。本校於管理學院時期（南華大學前身為南華管理學院），即確立以發揚中國古代書院傳統、重建人文精神、樹立廿一世紀新型大學為發展目標，逐步增設管理、人文及社會科學院。由於本校獨特的理念，及在教學品質、教學環境、導師制度與重視學生人格健全發展等方面表現優異，使南華在1999年創校短短三年後，即以獨特的理念與辦學績效良好，獲教育部核准升格為綜合型大學。此項優異的成績則創寫國內高等教育改名紀錄。十年樹木百年樹人，在此基礎上，南華大學再於2006年也就是創校後第十年，因應需求重新整合，再增設科技學院與藝術學院。至此，南華大學已成為台灣嘉義地區惟一一所兼具人文與藝術、科技與管理的全方位綜合性大學。
