With little support available in Brisbane, Australia they set up an online support community to connect with other sufferers and become a registered charity in 2013. Narcolepsy Australia host regular member meet ups in most capital cities across Australia, provide advocacy, education, peer support and information about narcolepsy, upcoming trials and research developments. Members of Narcolepsy Australia have exclusive access to educational webinars from internationally renowned narcolepsy experts, advocacy tools and our very active closed discussion group on Facebook (www.facebook.com/groups/narcolepsysupportaustralia/). In 2013 Melissa Jose, the President/Trustee of Narcolepsy Australia successfully lobbied the Therapeutic Goods Administration for the down scheduling of Sodium Oxybate to enable the prescribing of Xyrem in Australia. With our many support services on offer we hope to be a vital support to Australians affected by Narcolepsy and to raise awareness of Narcolepsy in the wider community. We are currently planning our second Patient Conference to be held in Queensland in 2020. From small beginnings amazing things can happen.
