About Narrative Nation
Creators of the Irth app and the Birthright podcast. We're a tech & media non-profit that shifts the narrative in Black maternal and infant health by shifting the narrator! We create community-centered technology products and media platforms to eradicate racial disparities in maternal and infant health. Our signature product, Irth (as in Birth but we dropped the B for bias) is the first of its kind, doctor and hospital rating and review platform for Black & brown women, birthing people, and new parents. We’re building the first, community-accessible, national repository of experiences of care of BIPOC, including reviews from mothers, fathers, parents, doulas, and hospital-based midwives. On the back end, Irth turns its structured reviews into detailed Black patient experience data, strategic insights, and hospital improvement plans to help health systems, providers, and payors “learn from the living” to provide more respectful and equitable care. We also produce the Birthright podcast, which only shares positive Black birthing stories as a direct counter to the doom and gloom narrative too common in mainstream coverage of Black maternal health. Joy is a tool for birth equity. Joy is our Birthright. Our narrative-driven projects, centering the lived experience of Black and brown birthing people, are designed to help build an anti-racist health system by leveraging technology (Irth App) to shift power dynamics to make bias-free birth a reality for all, and driving social change through meaningful and powerful storytelling (Birthright Podcast).
