About National Beta
National Beta is the largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization in America. We’re dedicated to recognizing high academic achievement, rewarding and nurturing worthy character, fostering leadership skills, and encouraging service to others. As a student-focused organization, we provide a variety of opportunities and experiences that positively impact our members, their schools, and communities across the nation and around the world. Since launching in 1934, we have served over 7 million students in grades 4-12 along with countless teachers, parents, and administrators. Currently we are serving nearly 500,000 students across our divisions which include Elementary Beta (grades 4-5), Junior Beta (grades 6-8) and Senior Beta (grades 9-12). Beta’s mission originated with Dr. John W. Harris, a professor at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, who founded the organization in 1934. Over 80 years have passed, but his vision and Beta’s mission has remained the same. Our Mission Statement: To promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students.
