About National Maritime Historical Society
The National Maritime Historical Society ("NMHS") is a 501(c)(3) non-profit membership organization founded in 1963. NMHS' mission is to raise awareness of our nation’s maritime heritage and the role seafaring has played in shaping civilization – through educational programs, publications, the preservation of historic ships, sail training, and maritime conferences, partnerships and events that celebrate outstanding contributions to our maritime heritage. The voice of the National Maritime Historical Society is Sea History magazine. With a readership of approximately 45,000, each issue carries fascinating articles about key events and people in our maritime past and the stories of everyday sailors past and present, news of marine archaeology, features on marine art, updates on historic and significant ships in danger of disappearing forever, as well as reviews of the latest books in the field, a calendar of maritime events, museum news and a section devoted to younger readers.
