About National Organization for Tardive Dyskinesia
National Organization for Tardive Dyskinesia (NOTD), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity, was founded in 2019 in response to the need for a national organization to represent this often permanent and disabling condition. It is estimated that at least 600,000 U.S. citizens suffer with some form of this medication-induced disorder. NOTD provides the following services and support to those who suffer from tardive dyskinesia, their caregivers and healthcare providers: Advocacy – In 2022, NOTD made its first trip to Washington, DC, with a small group of individuals with TD and their caregivers to advocate during TD Awareness Week, (TDAW) the first full week of May. These meetings with Congressional and Senate representatives and staffers will become an annual advocacy effort to raise awareness with policymakers. Education (for physicians, patients, loved ones and the public) – There is widespread misunderstanding that only people with severe mental disorders who take antipsychotic medicines can develop TD. In reality, TD can afflict those who take a wide variety of pharmaceutical drugs. The organization’s website, TDhelp.org, aims to offer a one-stop online resource to educate about the disorder. Awareness – The organization reaches out to the community at large through social media and through appearances at conferences and seminars to help increase TD awareness.
