About National Parks and Wildlife Service
NPWS is responsible for nature conservation, wildlife protection and Ireland' National Parks and Nature Reserves. We support nature related decision-making and investment at all levels in Irish society. We work to foster community and societal engagement with nature and biodiversity. We work in partnership to protect nature - with the public, landowners, communities, NGOs, businesses, agencies, researchers, and other government departments. Our responsibilities include: •Advising on, designing and implementing policy for nature and biodiversity •The Preservation and presentation of Ireland’s 8 National Parks and 74 Nature Reserves •Managing a range of EU programmes, as well as thousands of conservation measures across the designated area network and National Parks •Providing scientific advice and undertaking scientific research •Co-ordinating Ireland’s fourth National Biodiversity Action Plan •Acting as a statutory consultee in relation to planning matters, including county and regional development plans •Ecological assessments, regulation and licensing •Administering grant schemes to support farm-plans, conservation measures, actions for biodiversity and invasive species control measures •Prevention, investigation and enforcement of wildlife crime •Coordinating the development of the cross-government National Nature Restoration Plan.
