National Petroleum Training Institute is a Hands-On-Training facility located in Owings Mills, Maryland. Our unique training center is the only one of its kind in the country and includes a state-of-the-art classroom and an outdoor instruction area which contains three underground and two aboveground storage tanks. Each of the tanks has all the working components of a fuel system including overfill valves, ATG’s, dispensers, Emergency Shut off, etc. The three UST’s are installed with the top third of the tank exposed along with all the piping, containment sumps, conduits and catchment basins which are visible both through the open grate decking and from the sides. Atop the steel deck are all of the hatches and covers to access and inspect the STP, ATG and catchment basins. We have both pressurized and suction systems represented and all items are color coded and labeled. The systems are electrically and mechanically functional as the tanks are filled with a non-regulated liquid to demonstrate how each system functions. The outdoor training facility is a great tool to show the Fuel Tank Regulators, Installers, Engineers, Testers and Owners some of the solutions available in today’s market. As newer equipment becomes available, changes will be made to keep this facility state-of-the-art and on the cutting edge. We have a wide background in the individuals attending our training courses. They come from all corners of the U.S. and abroad. Many of the repeat students are here to take a refresher course required by various states to maintain UST Certifications. Others are facility owners looking to gain more knowledge on how testing works, understand the benefits of various fueling components and to see the latest and greatest technology available. By combining traditional classroom learning with real-world practical experience our students are better prepared to meet the complex challenges this industry will face in the future.
