About National Youth Choir

We run choirs for more than 1000 enthusiastic members from around the UK aged 9-25. All members get to take part in inspirational residential courses (usually at spring and summer) and enjoy singing in concerts and performances. Our choirs also record music tracks and videos for release on streaming platforms and YouTube. In recent years, our choirs have also been seen or heard on BBC1, ITV, BBC Radio 3, Classic FM and Scala Radio. We run training programmes for Emerging Professional Artists - our Fellowship, Young Conductor and Young Composer Programmes - which help to create the next generation of choral leaders, singers, musicians, conductors and composers. We are a national champion for choral singing. We visit schools and educational settings around the UK, all year round. We lead lively and engaging singing workshops for students of all abilities, and we assist teachers and music education networks with their development through support and partnership. We are a registered charity. We run fundraising schemes and activities to ensure that no young person is prevented from taking part in the National Youth Choir through financial challenges. We passionately believe that choral singing is for everybody. Many people who sing with the National Youth Choir come away with a life-long love of singing and music making. Alumni from our choirs can be found across the music industry. Some become professional singers - working with groups like The Sixteen, Tenebrae or VOCES8 - but many become conductors, concert managers, recording engineers, classroom teachers, music hub professionals and music charity workers. We are so proud that, regardless of their career choices, many alumni keep singing in amateur choirs, participating in the running of local groups and festivals, and advocating for singing in their communities throughout their lives to keep the joy of singing going for the next generation.
